Welcome to doule.wordpress.com

The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become.

Wooo Hooooo ….. look at all this new room with no comments left over from the site-formerly-know-as-doule.blogspot.com! Well let me be the first to comment…. uh, hmmm, what was the post about again? Oh yeah, willing to sacrifice now for the potential of later… what do I think about that? Is that the important thing? Hmmm. I was so excited about all this uncommented territory (like a graffiti artist with a new white train—except I am not seeking to vandalize)…

Seriously, my only real comment that is worth the HTML this is written in would be the need to count the cost before sacrificing. This is not a contradiction or refutation of the principle presented, just an addendum. : )

“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.” Luke 14:28-32

My dad used to always put it this way, “Never sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the immediate.” The meaning of the quote above could go either way I suppose. You wouldn’t want to sacrifice what you are for what you could become if what you are is a respected member of profitable society and what you could become is a crack dealer. So good point on counting the cost of the sacrifice.

MY dad use to say the same thing! or was it my pysch professor….

But when all things considered fit under the umbrella of Godly decisions….THEN how do you know what to sacrifice? This is why we need to be able to wait and hear the leading of the Holy Spirit.
