All of life’s questions can be answered through dad and baseball: case in point.

This past weekend the Braves played the Mets. The Braves were up 9/7 in the top of the 9th. There were men on 1st and 3rd, with two outs, when the 1st base runner stole second. Uncontested. The colour commentators were in bewilderment at how no effort was made to pick off the runner at 2nd. Now in the 9th, a base hit could tie up the game. As baseball fate would have it, a line drive straight to the first baseman ended the game.

Dad said, “If the runner had stayed at 1st, the 1st baseman would have been holding him and out of possition to be able to get the line drive. Sometimes what seems like a mistake is what puts you in the right place to do what needs to be done. Sometimes you have to lose to win.”
